I love when a new year begins. For me, there’s something special about opening a new calendar, grabbing my favorite pen and filling out the important dates. The calendar is clean, neat, uncluttered, and full of potential.
I also love the start of each new day because of the passage found in Lamentations 3:21-23:
This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope.
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
I have the best of intentions when I start each day: get to work on time, exercise, floss, eat right, speak kind words, show grace to those undeserving, share Christ, submit to authority, pick up after myself and try obey the speed limit…but the reality is, I fail miserably at times. Sometimes I want to go home, take a hot bubble bath, eat a carton bowl of ice cream and forget about it all. Then I remember that in just a few short hours, I get a do-over.
I’m so thankful that it’s like this in our Christian walk as well. God grants us mercy in situations where we deserve harsh punishment. It took me years to learn about God’s mercy and how much he truly loves is. Although God is just, he is also loving. He cares when we hurt. He cares when we step out of His will and take matters into our own hands.
Maybe you need a fresh start in your relationship with God. Maybe you need a fresh start in other relationships in your life. Why not take care of that right now? God is there… arms wide open with a new vat of mercy to share with you!
